I did it!

Yesterday I finally tried making Cinnamon Rolls from scratch.  For those of you who know me well, I am not the best in the kitchen but since I am not working now I have been able to spend a little more time in the kitchen and have really started to love baking.  I have tried some different things that include yeast but I was really excited because the rolls actually turned out.  I have used yeast before and whatever I have tried have not worked because they did not raise.  But this time they did and they were delicious.  My family loved them and that made me feel so good!  They were gone so fast I was not able to snap a picture.  I will be making these again really soon.

Happy Birthday Mom!

We celebrated my moms birthday this weekend since she will be out of town in Sunny Las Vegas visiting my brother on her birthday.  My kids love celebrating birthdays so we are always planning months before someones birthday has arrived.  Roderick put his art skills to work and made a birthday poster and hung it in the window so Grandma would see it as soon as they pulled in the driveway.  Lexi and Maya helped wrapping the presents, decorating and hanging up balloons.  Rodrigo made his delicious Enchiladas for dinner.  And I made a sunshine birthday cake.  It was a lot of fun having my mom and dad over to celebrate.  We sang happy birthday and my kids had the candles blown out before my mom got to it.  Happy Birthday Mom!  We love you.

New Years and Family Time

Wow!  I can't believe that the holidays are now over with and everyone is back to work and school.  It is kind of lonely here at my home today.  Rodrigo was off work the week in between Christmas and New Years.  We had a bunch of fun.  We did some bowling, went to the movies, stayed up until midnight and slept in.  It sure was an adjustment for everyone to wake up early again.

On New Years Eve we went up to my mom's and had a yummy steak dinner.  We played minute to win it.  Even Grandpa Pork joined in the fun.  We had a lot of good laughs.  Roderick even lost his other front tooth.  We brand in the New year at 10:00.  We found a channel that was doing the countdown so we got our hats on and blowers and noise makers in hand and welcomed 2011.  The girls have caught a cold so they were trying so hard to keep there eyes open.  It worked out perfect.  I am excited to see what the new year brings.

The Reason for the Season

The kids woke up about 8:30 due to going to bed at around 1:15 on Christmas Eve.  They were so anxious to get downstairs to see if the big jolly man had made a stop and sure enough he did.  The first thing they checked was the plate with milk and cookies.  Sure enough it was gone.  They were so glad that they had made the perfect cookies.  My mom and dad ventured out our way for Christmas breakfast.  Rodrigo made omelets this year and they were amazing.  Later that afternoon we went up to my parents house for dinner and to open gifts.  Thanks mom and dad for the great gifts and for taking so much time putting them together. Every year my dad gives each of us a ornament and he makes a poem to go along with it.  We really look forward to this every year.   It was a little different this year not having my brother and his family around.  We sure did miss them.

About 1 month before Christmas Roderick kept asking me if I knew the real meaning of Christmas.  And he would tell me that it was when we celebrate the birth of Christ.  He was really focused on giving to others and remembering our Savior.  He asked if we could get 1 balloon for each person in our family and on Christmas day he would like everyone to write a message to Jesus and then sing Happy Birthday and let the balloons go so they could get to Heaven for his birthday. Wow! I could not believe that my 7 year old had this amazing idea.  So when we got to my moms we all wrote our message and let our balloons go after we sang.  It was very emotional for me.  I am so glad that I have these little angels in my life to remind me what really is important.  I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday.
